The road from Hanoi to Yen Bai has 4 lanes, 2 emergency stopping lane, a design speed of 100km/ hours. The road from Yen Bai to Lao Cai has 2 lanes, 2 emergency stopping lane, a design speed of 80km/ h. This is the largest project to date with a total length of up to 245km. Currently, in 2025 the road is being upgraded to reach a speed limit of 100 km/h entire route from Yen Bai to Lao Cai.
